| Abstract: | Report is first Finnish version of author's important German thesis of 1974, based on work in 1968-69 and population of 292. Its information and conclusions can be brought to bear on current minority rights questions and considerations of cultural stability in times of change. Sections deal with natural setting of Utsjoki, history of district from 1500, with many national frontier changes, and effects of WW2. Co-existence of Finns and Saami is described, with its problems of ethnic definition and conflict. Reindeer- herding, crafts and other economic activity are described. |
