Abstract: | A coupled ice-ocean model has been set up in order to investigate the role played by sea ice energetics of the Greenland Sea. The basin-scale numerical model includes the Greenland, Icelandic and Norwegian seas. The model is a non-hydrostatic primitive equation model. It has a horizontal resolution of 20 km and vertical grid spacing of 50 m. This resolution is adequate for resolving the mesoscale topographic structures, which are known to control the circulation in this region. The model's ability to simulate the large-scale barotropically controlled flow is described. The baroclinic Rossby radius of deformation is between 5 and 10 km, so the model is not eddy-resolving. |
