The ice flux in Fram Strait / Torgny Vinje, Nina Nordlund, Svein Østerhus ; Peter Wadhams.

Title: The ice flux in Fram Strait / Torgny Vinje, Nina Nordlund, Svein Østerhus ; Peter Wadhams.

Date: 1996.
Publisher: Cambridge: Sea Ice Group, Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge
In: ESOP. European Subpolar Ocean Programme. Sea ice - ocean interactions. Volume 1. (1996.),
Abstract: Ice-draft and current measurements from moorings obtained during August 1990 to August 1994 were studied and compared with submarine sonar measurements. Ice-draft frequency distributions and time series of the monthly mean ice draft, the monthly mean draft of ice only, and the current velocity are derived. A minimum of the ice thickness is found during the winter, in accordance with previous submarine observations and the general seasonal change of the atmospheric circulation. A considerable interannual variation is observed in the current velocity and thereby also in the ice mass flux, varying between a minimum of 1527 km3 in 1990-91 and a maximum of 3411 km3 in 1992-93. The four-year average ice-mass flux is 2200 km3 per annum.
