Record #139977:

Sedimentary and tectonic development of a high-Arctic, thrust- moraine complex: Comfortlessbreen, Svalbard / David Huddart, Michael J. Hambrey.

Title: Sedimentary and tectonic development of a high-Arctic, thrust- moraine complex: Comfortlessbreen, Svalbard / David Huddart, Michael J. Hambrey.
Author(s): Huddart, David.
Hambrey, Michael J.
Date: 1996.
In: Boreas. (1996.), Vol. 25(4) (1996)
Abstract: Glaciotectonic processes that have shaped morphology and structural geology of Comfortlessbreen complex are shown to be largely proglacial in origin, with development of low-angle thrusts, nappe-like structures and folds. Deformation has extended into glacier foreland. Style of deformation explains incorporation of sub-glacial debris into ice. Model for thrust- moraine development and its possible chronology emphasizes role of sediment in facilitating deformation and role of thrusting rather than pushing. Comparison is made with neighbouring Uversbreen.
