Abstract: Romantic nationalism and popular Darwinism have been responsible for many myths founded on ignorance since 1850s. Magic, suicide, drunkenness, bathing, driving reindeer to their deaths on railway or ascribing enormous numbers of deaths to predators - myths recur.
