Abstract: | In northern Norway hay harvest has traditionally been supplemented by other sources of cattle fodder. Seaweeds were important and free. Rhizomes of ferns, "mollfôr", were collected. So were heather, young branches of Betula and branches of Sorbus and Salix. Rowan bark was called "skav". "Cow barn kettle" held fish remains, horse dung, hay, seeds and other plant remains. These traditions are all gone. Cattle fed on these products were seldom ill. |
