Abstract: These hailstorms took place after 'heatwave' weather and is claimed by the author to one of the most awesome series of hailstorms to affect central and eastern England in the past 200 years. Records from private diaries, observatories and contemporary newspapers were used in this study. Severe damage was caused by hailstones over a wide area.
