Abstract: Principal aims of study are: 1. to show extent of severe damage near Monchegorsk copper (cu) and nickel (Ni) smelters; and 2. to reveal expansion of damaged area in near past using combination of multi-temporal unsupervised classification and multi-temporal NDVI transect analysis. In addition, describes state of green vegetation in western Kola and eastern Finnish Lapland in large scale on basis of visual interpretation of TM multiband images overlied by sulphur dioxide distribution model.
