Abstract: Various claims were made early in 20th Cent. that shamanism angakkoqs had been eradicated even from East Greenland, along with their murderous, dominating and sexually loose practices. Article conveys work of author and of P.-E.Victor on memories of its working. Passages cover: initiation, séances, special poetic ("spiritual") language, and disappearance of shamanism. Author relates how evangelists condemned en bloc all beliefs and practices, use of masks and drums, chants and dances. Some of these aspects may remain, but, for good or ill, function of shaman has gone.
