Record #139385:
Climatic impacts on flowering, growth and vigour in an Arctic-Alpine cushion plant, Diapensia lapponica, under different snow cover regimes / Ulf Molau.
Title: | Climatic impacts on flowering, growth and vigour in an Arctic-Alpine cushion plant, Diapensia lapponica, under different snow cover regimes / Ulf Molau. |
Author(s): | Molau, Ulf. |
Date: | 1996. |
In: | Ecological Bulletins. (1996.), Vol. 45 (1996) |
Abstract: | Impacts were investigated along snow-melt gradient over 5 years. Live mass declined by 22% and flowering by 55%. Many old cushions died, and little recruitment was seen.Snow-cover was main determinant of performance. Most loss was on most wind-exposed part. Plants responded to increasing spring temperatures by shooting earlier, then being caught by June blizzards. Investigation provides one of very few present records on impacts of climate change on tundra plant cover. |
Notes: | Ecological Bulletins. Vol. 45 :210-219 (1996). In issue: Plant ecology in the subarctic Swedish Lapland, edited by P.S. Karlsson and T.V. Callaghan. |
