Abstract: Gas exchange characteristics and carbon gain of transplanted temperate zone and native sub-Arctic geums and ranunculus were evaluated in common sub-Arctic garden. Photosynthetic capacity and rates of dark respiration of temperate zone genotypes did not differ significantly from natives, indicating significant amount of phenotype adjustment. Modelled daily leaf carbon balances in sub-Arctic summer were highest in natives, while temperate zone genotypes in sub-Arctic tended to have higher daily leaf carbon balances than at home in Central Europe.
