Record #139369:

Treeline ecology of mountain birch in the Torneträsk area / B. Sveinbjörnsson, Heikki Kauhanen, O. Nordell.

Title: Treeline ecology of mountain birch in the Torneträsk area / B. Sveinbjörnsson, Heikki Kauhanen, O. Nordell.
Author(s): Sveinbjörnsson, B.
Kauhanen, Heikki.
Nordell, O.
Date: 1996.
In: Ecological Bulletins. (1996.), Vol. 45 (1996)
Abstract: Reproductive success generally diminishes with elevation. Several years of good weather are needed. Male catkin production is increased by nitrogen and phosphorus, especially both. Rates of photosynthesis and respiration are identical at different elevations, but leaf season is shorter at high elevations. Nitrogen limits tree height and branch numbers to increasing degree with elevation, despite increasing foliar nitrogen concentration. Phosphorus application was not found to stimulate growth.
Notes:

In issue: Plant ecology in the subarctic Swedish Lapland, edited by P.S. Karlsson and T.V. Callaghan.
