| Abstract: | Chapter starts with material about possible site of Barents's grave, but author believes most likely is seaman's grave just where he died. Other passages discuss "Novaya Zemlya phenomenon" of refraction, dating of sun's declination with De Medina's handbook and exact determination of latitude. Tables are given for these and in particular for measurements on 23 June 1597, with some statistical checks. Star charts show conjunction of Jupiter with moon. |
