Abstract: | Examines past and present of Respublika Sakha in light of its current rapid social and economic change. Argues that Sakha case study is quite consistent with existing explanations of subset of economies which rely heavily on export-led growth of primary resource production and does not need new paradigm in development economics. Focuses on process of privatisation and mechanism for export. Compares available options for Sakha's development and management of resource rents with parallel choices in Alaska. Discusses also gold, and oil and gas industries. |
