| Abstract: | Book tells of excavations from 1991 to 1993 at Slettnes on Sørøya, Finnmark. 36 of 180 house structures were fully excavated and smaller test pits in 50. ¹⁴C datings indicate that most prehistoric houses are Early Stone Age and Early Metal Age. Several boulders with variety of Stone Age rock carvings appeared. Settlement was affected partly by level of sea, which varied with size of Polar ice cap. Each major phase in building has been divided into sub-phases of roughly 1000 years, with nothing from last 800 years BC. |
