Record #139219:

Some macrofaunal effects of local pollution and glacier-induced sedimentation, with indicative chemical analyses, in the sediments of two Arctic fjords / B. Holte, S. Dahle, B. Gulliksen, K. Naes.

Title: Some macrofaunal effects of local pollution and glacier-induced sedimentation, with indicative chemical analyses, in the sediments of two Arctic fjords / B. Holte, S. Dahle, B. Gulliksen, K. Naes.

In: Polar Biology. (1996.), Vol. 16(8) (1996)
Abstract: Sampling was carried out in 1992 close to garbage dumping sites of coal mining industrialised settlements Longyearbyen and Barentsburg in Svalbard. Concentrations of PCB₇, PAH and HCB were up to 5, 16 and 30 times assumed background concentrations, presumably as result of terrestrial drainage of coal particles. Faunal diversities were low, probably as result of glacier-induced fine particles. Untreated sewage or drainage water from rubbish dumps led to dominance of certain polychaetes.
