Abstract: Proposes replacement of term "traditional knowledge" by indigenous knowledge, so that all relevant knowledge - traditional and non-traditional - of northern native peoples can be incorporated in environmental impact studies. Reports author's experiences in attempting to give native peoples a voice and assessment role in diamond mine proposed by BHP Diamonds Inc. at Lac de Gras, Northwest Territories.
