Abstract: Two simple terrains were used with contrasting constant backscattering coefficient and no change in elevation. Using the SPRI Altimetric Waveform Simulation Program analyses of simulated entire waveforms, eg from Seasat, yields information about the whole extent of the footprints of the altimeter.
