Abstract: As indication of degree to which modernization processes were already present in nineteenth century Greenland, author examines extent to which native Greenlanders took advantage of opportunities for earning livelihood as permanently attached full-time employees of Royal Greenland Trade Department. Also analyses degree to which native members of Danish Lutheran Mission and Mission of Moravian Brethren gained access to employment.
