Implications for deglaciation chronology from the new AMS determinations in Central West Greenland / Frank G.M. van Tatenhove, Jaap J.M. van der Meer, Eduard A. Koster.

Title: Implications for deglaciation chronology from the new AMS determinations in Central West Greenland / Frank G.M. van Tatenhove, Jaap J.M. van der Meer, Eduard A. Koster.
Author(s): Tatenhove, Frank G. M. van.
Meer, Jaap J. M. van der.
Koster, Eduard A.
Date: 1996.
In: Quaternary Research. (1996.), Vol. 45(3) (1996)
Abstract: New evidence has been obtained for age of Umivit/Keglen and Ørkendalen moraine systems close to present ice-sheet margin. Umivit system is moved back 200 to 500 yr, while Ørkendalen system is moved 5000 to 6000 yr. New age is based on AMS radio-carbon dated organic material within depressions between morainic ridges. Major implication is that ice margin positions prevailed for about 6000 years behind present ice-sheet margin. Retreat behind present margin could be substantial and could be 10s of kilometres rather than kilometres.
