Abstract: | Contrasts concepts of nature found among northern indigenous peoples with modern classifications of attitudes to nature. Whereas modern attitudes tend to be based on nature/culture dichotomy, author argues that central features of traditional attitude are: 1. respect for nature as equal partner; 2. reciprocity; 3. inseparability of nature and culture; 4. animism and spirituality; 5. kinship and sharing; and 6. primacy of moral values in social relations. |
