Title: Makroparisitter hos rein / Arne C. Nilssen, Rolf Egil Haugerud.
Translated title: Macro-parasites in reindeer.
Author(s): Nilssen, Arne C.
Haugerud, Rolf Egil.
Date: 1996.
Language: Norwegian and Sami.
In: Reindriftsnytt. (1996.), Vol. 30(1/2) (1996)
Abstract: Nilssen started bot-fly research in 1983. Article describes parasites and methods of infection of Hypoderma (=Oedemagena) tarandi and Cephenemyia trompe. Second part describes sinus worm Linguatila arctica with known part of its life-cycle and considers it to be in sense new species, probably co-extensive with reindeer. Third part describes methods of controlling numbers of both fly and worm, on islands and on mainland. Inoculation is very effective as long as resistance has not built up. Changes in annual movement or slaughter timings could be very effective.
