Abstract: Fjellner was born in 1795 in Härjedal. Hr went to Härnösand Gymnasium in 1817 and so to Uppsala University. Back home he composed many joiks and returned with theological training as missionary to Saami, where he had not only to learn very different dialect but also Finnish. There he continued to write poetry in blend of Saami, and some of his own translations in Swedish, influenced by Kalevala.
