Abstract: | Plankton community structure was analyzed during spring at four stations along transect from ice into open waters of Barents Sea. Transect mimics span of months in biological succession during summer. Significance of microbial food web v. more classical food web was evaluated using carbon budget models. Standing stocks of diatom-dominated phytoplankton and bacteria were high especially in connection to ice. Biomass of microzooplankton, dominated by heterotrophic dinoflagellates, was significantly high. Secondary production of copepods was analyzed by egg production. |
