| Abstract: | Discusses push moraines and their relationship with glacial processes and geology of glacier bed, based on synthesis of structures and landforms produced by modern glaciers and ancient ice sheets. Describes Neoglacial Holmströmbren push moraine in Spitsbergen and a Saalian push moraine in Germany. Includes relationship between pushing process and coeval glacio-fluvial erosion and sedimentation; distribution of glaciotectonic styles characteristic of regimes of margins and interior parts of glaciers and ice sheets on scales from microscopic to map size; and dynamic analysis of glacial pushing process comparing push moraines with accretionary wedges at converging plate margins. |
