Visual ethnography and representation: two case studies in the Arctic / Mark Orlen Badger.

Title: Visual ethnography and representation: two case studies in the Arctic / Mark Orlen Badger.
Author(s): Badger, Mark Orlen.
Date: 1995.
Abstract: Describes and analyzes two experimental visual ethnographies: study of spiritual beliefs of Koyukon Athabascans of Interior Alaska, and community study among Khanty (Ob Ostyaks) of western Siberia. Both projects were exercises in collaborative film-making between film-maker, anthropologist, and subject with the aim of accurate and insightful cultural representation. This study analyzes models encouraging voices [as ideas] of subjects of ethnographic film to be incorporated into visual text.
