Abstract: | Surveys current situation and prospects for survival of ethnic minorities of Russian North. Presents strong views on challenges facing these groups on eve of 21st century. Stress need to provide conditions conducive to adoption of individual place- and culture-specific solutions within context of more broadly based policy initiatives, which reflect variety of peoples and environments. Emphasises need to link environment with ethnicity in policy making. Makes brief comparisons with Alaska. |
