| Abstract: | Paper relates early spread of whaling in Finnmark, with resistance from local fishermen, who disliked pollution and needed whales to drive capelin into fjords. Various whaling laws are mentioned. Competition began with British whalers in North and then in Antarctic, with licences obtained from British. Finally, different relationships between politics and science in IWC and ICES are described. In North, whalers' and fishermen's interests now coincide. |
