Abstract: By 1920 Treaty, terra nullius was transformed into Norwegian territory in which other nations had rights. Book provides first comprehensive legal examination of treaty, emphasizing four aspects: Norwegian sovereignty, non-discrimination, peaceful use, and geographical application of treaty on continental shelf and in 200-mile zone. International interest goes from coal mining to scientific research, tourism and exploitation of possible oil discoveries, combined with conservational aims. Treaty is compared with other treaty arrangements, and possible changes are discussed.
