Czy noc polarna jest nowym zjawiskiem? Czyli dobra teoria biologiczna nie do przyjȩcia przez astronomów / Jan Marcin Wȩsławski.

Title: Czy noc polarna jest nowym zjawiskiem? Czyli dobra teoria biologiczna nie do przyjȩcia przez astronomów / Jan Marcin Wȩsławski.
Translated title: Is the Polar night a new phenomenon? Or good biological theory but not to be accepted by astronomers.
Author(s): Wȩsławski, Jan Marcin.
Date: 1995.
Publisher: Wrocław, Poland: Instytut Geograficzny Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego
Language: Polish.
In: XXII Sympozjum Polarne. Jedność środowiska przyrodniczego Arktyki i Antarktyki. (1995.),
Abstract: Danish marine biologist G. Hopner Petersen published in 1984 controversial theory on evolutionary history of Polar night. Main conclusion was that light and not temperature is major driving force shaping marine ecosystems. Remains of early Tertiary tropical sea off northernmost Greenland tell of higher temperatures but different light regime. Continental drift put region near North Pole soon after Cretaceous. Coral reefs and tropical forests cannot exist in high latitude light cycles. Petersen explains paradox by postulating major changes in Earth's axis.
