Thalbitzers og Holtveds betydning for eskimoisk lingvistik/ Thalbitzerikkut Holtvedillu eskimuut oqaasiinik ilisimatusarnermi pingaarutaat / Michael Fortescue.

Title: Thalbitzers og Holtveds betydning for eskimoisk lingvistik/ Thalbitzerikkut Holtvedillu eskimuut oqaasiinik ilisimatusarnermi pingaarutaat / Michael Fortescue.
Translated title: Thalbitzer and Holtved's importance for Eskimo linguistics.
Author(s): Fortescue, Michael.
Date: 1995.
Language: Danish and Greenlandic.
In: Forskning i Grønland = Tusaat. (1995.), Vol. 2-3 (1995)
Abstract: Eskimo-Aleut speech studies have followed different lines. Author considers one with sizeable Danish input, from Rasmus Rask (published 1916) onwards. Thalbitzer's results are now suspect, as his data was defective, except for his personal knowledge of Eastern and Upernavik dialect. But his use of certain aural features is still central in drawing dialect boundaries. His musical ear may have helped. However, his attempt to detect Eskimo character in blurring of verb- and noun-formation is not supported. Holtved wrote few linguistic works, but his comparative data was very useful to author.
