Abstract: Third article in series describes Holocene volcanism and tectonics of area. Map shows general geology where lavas from each fissure swarm are grouped. Holuhraun at northern edge is most likely historical lava and possibly related to fissure swarm of Grímsvötn central volcano. Main SW-NE tectonic trend gradually shifts to N-S direction of northern Iceland with transverse volcano-tectonic faults.
