Abstract: | Arenica marina is widely distributed in Iceland down to 6 m depth. It lives in J-shaped burrow, ingesting muddy sand. In south-east Iceland some had burrowed in submerged peat containing tephra layers. Apparently, sharp edges had not damaged digestive organs. Since 1900 land has risen isostatically and worms are now adapting to new environment. |
