| Abstract: | Article explains historical origins of Lapp Tax and its destiny, especially efforts by Swedish Crown to organise it, culminating in Lapp Codicil of 1751. Swedish Saami then had to lease land on entering summer pastures or sub-rent from Norwegian Saami. This continued in 19th Cent. Last tax on Norwegian Saami in Helgeland was paid in 1966, last by Swedish in 1971. |
