Abstract: All components of energy balance in forest of mountain birch, Betula pubescens ssp.tortuosa, were determined from measurements, except sensible heat fluxes. Evapotranspiration was obtained: 1) directly from cut birches in water containaers and 2) from stomatal conductance measurement of cut and rooted reference birches. Undergrowth evapotranspiration was measured with lysimeters. Four-layer evapotranspiration model was developed from Penman-Monteith equation. Sub-model for leaf stomatal conductance was used with parameters from detailed micro-meteorological measurements in and above forest. Undergrowth contributes half total evapotranspiration annually.
