Abstract: Logging and wood processing have been sole base of local economy for many rural communities, but is being severely disrupted by reorganization and clashes of interest. Article explains these and discusses forestry methods and cuttings. Commercial and other co-operation across border are described with effects on both sides of Finnish need of cheap roundwood and pulp.
