| Abstract: | Board's remit stems from UN's Rio de Janeiro conference in 1992 and aims to promote sustainable development. Saami are concerned with maintenance of their herding and fishing rights under development and protection against farming and forestry encroachment. From year 2000 limits will be placed on terrain vehicles and scooter competitions banned. Licenses will be needed. (Editorial p.3 judges these proposals as class question led by "snob mafia"). Fish and small game disputes should be resolved by county authorities in consultation with Saami settlement affected. |
