Abstract: | As against single and multiple prey models, proposes alternative mechanism based on individual behaviour: territorial predators monopolize disproportionately large amount of resources for reproduction during increase and peak of cycle, and are then buffered against prey declines by adjusting their breeding activities; non-territorial floaters have lower access to resources and their numbers are affected more immediately by declining prey. Study carried out at Kluane Lake, Yukon Territory. |
