Abstract: | Shrimp fishing is Greenland's dominant industry and crucial to economy. Since late 1980s it has been in crisis with overcapacity, poor returns and threatened stocks. Thesis aims virtually to start literature on subject by applied economic study of development since Home Rule in 1979. First part gives account of Greenland in recent times. Second uses fisheries' economic Schaefer-Gordon population dynamics to consider five main issues. Conclusions are drawn and further government control measures recommended, besides research into shrimp recruitment. |
