Intertidal zone of Svalbard. 2. Meiobenthos density and occurrence / M. Szymelfenig, S. Kwaśniewski, Jan Marcin Wȩsławski.

Title: Intertidal zone of Svalbard. 2. Meiobenthos density and occurrence / M. Szymelfenig, S. Kwaśniewski, Jan Marcin Wȩsławski.

Date: 1995.
In: Polar Biology. (1995.), Vol. 15(2) (1995)
Abstract: Meiobenthos was sampled at 119 localities along 1500 km of Svalbard shores in summers 1988-1993. Principal taxa were determined from sediment cores collected at low tide on soft sediment shores. Density ranged from 0 to >10000 ind./10 cm₂. Nematoda were most common taxon, accompanied by Turbellaria, Oligochaeta and Harpacticoida. Occurrence of meiofaunal taxa was weakly correlated with geographical area. Local habitats were decisive. Most common meiobenthos was found on western coast of South Spitsbergen.
