Abstract: Graduate level textbook, which assumes a basic knowledge of undergraduate mechanics, geotechnical engineering and some geology. There is a mathematical treatment of many subjects, including the physical, thermal and mechanical properties of frozen ground, types of foundations in frozen soil and field investigations. A chapter is included on controlled ground freezing for temperate engineering projects. Following each chapter there are problems for students. There is an appendix on laboratory tests on frozen soils, and an 18-page bibliography.
