Oceanic convection in the Greenland Sea Odden region as interpreted in satellite data / Frank D. Carsey, Andrew T. Roach.
Title: | Oceanic convection in the Greenland Sea Odden region as interpreted in satellite data / Frank D. Carsey, Andrew T. Roach. |
Author(s): | Carsey, Frank D. Roach, Andrew T. |
Date: | 1994. |
Publisher: | Washington, DC: American Geophysical Union |
In: | Polar oceans and their role in shaping the global environment : the Nansen Centennial volume. (1994.), |
Abstract: | Convection is discussed in terms of regional ice retreat, from data previously associated with convection in ocean mooring data. Convection regions are tentatively identified with plumes of about 300 m separation in area about 20 km by 90 km immediately north of rapidly retreating ice edge at southern end of ice edge bay, taken to be result of flow of warm, saline Arctic Intermediate Water to surface during convection. Bay is seen to expand downwind, but may be propagating along salinity gradient. |
