Abstract: | Talk describes stocks of herring (Clupea harengus), capelin (Mallotus villosus) and blue whiting (Micromesistius poutassou) in Iceland waters over recent decades. These are two links in food chain above phytoplankton. Herring crashed in 1970s, but Icelandic conservation of them has been classic example of good practice. Capelin, with shorter life, have been very variable. Blue whiting have scarcely figured in Icelandic catch, but have been important for other fleets since 1975. Maps show movements of stocks during year. |
