Abstract: Author has been leader of station since 1976. Article describes origin of station following several scientific visits from 1933. Aim was to observe Mittivakkat Glacier over time, to take weather observations, now often automated, and to form base for other researches, especially sediment and rock transport and hydrology. First hut was put up in 1970 in what was thought to be safe place. It was totally crushed and new hut in new position started in 1973. So much work was going on that it was perforce coordinated.
