Majority-Minority relations - The case of the Sami in Scandinavia - Report - Guovdageaidnu Norway 2-4 July 1993 / Anon.

Title: Majority-Minority relations - The case of the Sami in Scandinavia - Report - Guovdageaidnu Norway 2-4 July 1993 / Anon.
Date: 1994.
Publisher: [Kautokeino, Norway]: World Commission on Culture and Development
Abstract: Ten speeches were made on aspects of Saami rights and their history, with contributions on situations in all three Scandinavian nations with Saami minorities. Political development, language policy and local initiatives were explained. Final chapter on Indigenous Resource Management in a Changing World is much more specific and deals with virtue of traditional management of herds, pastures and people - in total contrast to democratic-socialist ideals of Norwegian State, as result of which inexpert people take on herds, lands are extensively fenced and women can seldom enter herding. Moreover, herds are bigger, rather unbalanced and pasture is over-grazed.
