Abstract: Article lists various sorts of rubbish fetching up in Barents and Norwegian seas and on their shores, in particular metals and plastics, many of which become incorporated in food chain. Others sink and concentrate especially in benthic chain. Article gives concentrations in zooplankton, benthos, birds and seals. Pesticides and hydrocarbons add to problems. Shipping is added to natural floating substrates such as sea ice in various forms in ecosystems. Proposals for monitoring and improving matters are formulated.
