Abstract: An excellent introductory text on both remote sensing of ice/snow and the geophysics of ice and snow. It includes sections on ice crystal structure, glaciers, sea ice and icebergs. Considering global warming it discusses the contribution of melting ice to sea level rise, the possible retreat and/or thinning of sea ice, and decreases in snow cover.
