Author(s): Nesje, Atle.
Date: 1994.
In: Norsk Geografisk Tidsskrift. (1994.), Vol. 48(3) (1994)
Abstract: Tax records and other historical material document details of series of catastrophes that affected farm; these were due to Little Ice Age advance of Brenndalsbreen. Glacier was recorded as visible on skyline before 1650, floods caused damage in 1680s and 1690s, and in 1700 glacier had reached valley mouth above houses (advance of 9 m a⁻¹). Between 1700 and 1728, advance continued and houses were moved to higher terrace, but on 12 December 1743 avalanche of ice, water and rubble from glacier destroyed all buildings.
