Record #130366:

Climatic interpretation of alpine snowline variations on millennial time scales / Geoffrey O. Seltzer.

Title: Climatic interpretation of alpine snowline variations on millennial time scales / Geoffrey O. Seltzer.
Author(s): Seltzer, Geoffrey O.
Date: 1994.
In: Quaternary Research. (1994.), Vol. 41(2) (1994)
Abstract: Reviews methods of climatic interpretation of glacier fluctuations on time scales of 10³ to 10⁴ years. Approach is from perspective of perturbations in equibrium-line altitude of glacier, which is independent of its internal dynamics. Discusses typical assumptions for palaeoclimatic interpretations of snowline variations on millennial time scales. Minimum number of climatic parameters that need to be estimated in order to quantify climatic variation from snowline change in different geographic regions is specified. Although unique climatic solutions cannot be determined from perturbations in snowline, range of probable solutions can be deduced.
