Record #130269:

Water migration and ice segregation in the transition zone between thawed and frozen soil / V.I. Solomatin, Xiaozu Xu.

Title: Water migration and ice segregation in the transition zone between thawed and frozen soil / V.I. Solomatin, Xiaozu Xu.
Author(s): Solomatin, V. I.
Xu, Xiaozu.
Date: 1994.
In: Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. (1994.), Vol. 5(3) (1994)
Abstract: Samples of silty clay were kept under constant boundary temperature conditions of +1°C (top) and --1°C (bottom). Cryogenic layering was observed in soil layers with boundary temperature conditions of --0.5 to --1.0°C. These results confirm earlier observations which explain occurrence of ice-rich layer near permafrost table, and they may be used to explain influence of snow cover on isotopic composition of near-surface groundwater and ice.
